paleo krunch bar

My first encounter with Steve’s Original came through a Paleo Kit – a delicious yet messy snack consisting of beef jerky, nuts, and dried fruits. I liked it, but it didn’t make much sense to carry on a bike ride.

Fortunately, Steve was on the ball – he saw my review and sent me a Steve’s Original Paleo Krunch Bar to test out, since it would be a better option for snacking during an activity such as cycling.

First, what is the Paleo Krunch bar? It’s a grainless granola bar! That’s right, granola without grains. It doesn’t seem possible. But it is! And it’s good!

Paleo Krunch Bar Nutrition

The ingredients:

Ingredients: Almond meal, shredded coconut, raw sunflower seeds, raw pumpkin seeds, almond slivers, coconut oil, honey, vanilla extract.

These ingredients are spectacular! I’m amazed not just because of the high quality, but because they somehow combined only these natural ingredients together. There isn’t a single garbage ingredient hidden in there!

I’m impressed with the honey especially. Honey isn’t exotic or rare, but finally, someone gets it – honey is a natural sweetener. Agave syrup (the typical sweetener for “healthy” bars) is processed junk and has no place in a natural, high quality bar like this.

Nutrition Facts:

Calories 200
Total Fat 13g
Total Carbs 16g
Sugars 6g
Protein 7g

This supplies you with 200 calories, which is right in the range of a typical energy bar. Then you have a nice balance of fat, carbs, and protein. Traditionalists will prefer something higher in carbs and lower in fat to fuel their workouts, but this balance is great for a snack during the day or during low-intensity exercise.

Paleo Krunch Bar Taste Test

I’ll tell ya what – I’ve never had anything quite like the Paleo Krunch! It’s quite a bit different than any other granola bar I know of (Nature Valley, Clif Crunch, etc..)

I really can’t compare it to anything (maybe the Will Bar, but even that is a stretch,) so I’ll do my best to describe it.

The taste is familiar to me, but not similar to anything in particular. I think it’s because I’m used to eating pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, as well as almonds and coconut, but not all mixed together. So imagine all those good snacks put together into one, and that’s the PaleoKrunch.

As for texture, this bar is crunchy and soft at the same time. Interesting! It actually tastes homemade, unlike your typical highly-processed bars.

Overall, I can simply say the taste is great! It’s probably the best way for someone on the Paleo diet to have something that reminds them of grainy foods like granola bars!

Paleo Krunch Bar, In Use

All you have to do is tear open the bag and eat the bar. It might crumble a bit, but it should stay in good size chunks.

It’s definitely not as messy as a Paleo Kit.

I’m not sure if I’d attempt eating one while riding my bike, but I would eat one at a pit stop for sure. Or I would eat one while hiking, no problem.

And eating one at your work desk is no problem.

My final verdict is…

If you’re on the paleo diet, your snack options are limited. If you get tired of plain beef jerky and raw nuts, try the Paleo Krunch bar. It tastes awesome (reminiscent of traditional granola) and makes a convenient snack for lunch at your desk or while out hiking or even cycling.
