good'n natural bar

I like bars that are good. I like bars that are natural. So the Good’n Natural Bar seemed right up my alley.

It is filled with whole, natural ingredients, packs 10g protein, and contains just 9g sugar (from an organic, natural source no less.) How could it not be perfect?

Famous last words…

Health and Nutrition Inspection

Well, it lives up to the “natural” in its name!

The ingredients are mainly gluten free rolled oats, organic maple syrup, and a variety of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds (even pumpkin seeds.) Based on that list, I’d say the bar is good, natural, and even somewhat healthy!

Each bar packs 230 calories, 9g fat, 29g carbs, 5g fiber, 9g sugar, and 10g protein. That’s a nice mix for a snack bar.

Note that it is not something I’d eat during a race. For that purpose I’d be looking for more carbs, a bit less fat, and less fiber.

Overall, I can’t complain.

Taste’n and Test’n These Bars

OK – the ingredients are great, and as far as I know, I enjoy the taste of each item listed. So let’s see how these flavors stack up.

Dark Chocolate

The visual appearance is like a no-bake cookie compressed into a bar form.

Unfortunately, that’s where the comparison ends! This is a weird bar that’s very thick and dense (which I normally like) but also very dry (which ruins it.) The texture is like a stale brownie with stale walnuts in it.

I don’t like the flavor at all, either. It’s like that unsweetened dark chocolate powder but even more bitter, and with a weird extra taste, too. I’m not sure where the extra flavor comes from, as there are no artificial sweeteners.

Really, the whole experience is bland – you’re just chewing on a mix of ingredients, none of which has enough flavor to matter.

Peanut Butter

Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin

Mixed Berry

(I’m not sure why I left spots for the rest of the flavors. After how bad the chocolate was, I don’t plan to pay for another one of these things. I’m not sure I’d even eat them if they were given to me free of charge!)

Good’n Natural, But Not Good’nuff

This wouldn’t be the first time I was disappointed by a random Big Lots energy bar purchase! I definitely find some duds.

It seems the bars with names most easily made into jokes are always bad. In this case: good’n natural… not good’nuff.

The last one I remember was Tri-Yum… don’t try ’em.

My final verdict is…

This chocolate flavor was so bad in every possible way, I can’t imagine any of the others are enjoyable (or even palatable.) This was the most disappointing food bar in recent memory!

It’s probably best if you avoid these unless you’re dying of hunger. It’s sad this product ever made it on the market.
