kuat rackdock keeping hitch rack off the floor

Where do you store your hitch rack when it’s not on your car?

I’ve been leaving mine on the ground, either in the driveway or in the garage, or even out in the yard. Because anywhere I put it, it takes up so much floor space! And it’s a tripping hazard!

That’s why I was elated to discover something called a hitch rack wall mount. It’s basically a hitch receiver used to mount your bike rack against the wall!

A rack… for your rack?

Exactly. It’s a rack to hold your rack.

It frees up floor space and makes things look organized – just like mounting your bikes on the wall does!

There are various styles of these specialty mounts so you can store your hitch rack on the wall, regardless of the rack’s size, weight, or features.

Here are the best options for a hitch rack wall mount:

The Best: Rocky Mounts Hitch Rack Wall Mount

This rack from Rocky Mounts is small, discreet, simple, and effective. And it’s only $25 – by far the most affordable hitch rack wall mount!

All you have to do is mount it to a stud using the supplied screws. Then you can hang your hitch rack in it. The hitch rack is held in place by the mounting pin that attaches the rack to your receiver hitch.

It works for 1.25″ and 2″ racks of all types. Due to the orientation, it does not require your rack to fold to keep it up and out of the way, against the wall.

A lot of the cheap racks you see on Amazon are miniature receiver hitches that mount on the wall. Those are okay, but they require you to have a folding bike rack – or else it’s going to protrude pretty far out from the wall.

The only potential complaint against this Rocky Mounts mount is that your bike rack will lean against the wall, potentially scuffing the wall. But I’m assuming you have bikes and tools hanging against the same wall! So I really doubt that is an issue.

Heavy Duty Pick: Kuat RackDock

If you have a heavy bike rack, like one with a 4-bike tray, I recommend upgrading to the Kuat RackDock. It’s capable of handling a max weight of 115 lb, and it comes in a sophisticated design.

It’s especially great if you own a Kuat rack – the style is a perfect match, and you can choose black or orange colors.

This one costs $89, but it’s worth it if you have an $850 Kuat rack! Especially if you have it extended into a 4-bike rack, which makes it rather heavy, not to mention the price tag approaching $1500.

Also Nice: 1UP USA Rack Stash

The Rack Stash has been around for years. It’s a basic design but looks nice. It comes in a black/red color scheme to match your 1UP USA rack, but is compatible with any hitch bike rack.

The 90 lb max weight should handle the vast majority of racks, and the $59 price is reasonable.

The major flaw is the marketing and ordering experience. Whereas all the other products state they will accept a 1.25″ or 2″ rack, when you’re ordering the Rack Stash, you have to select the 1.25″ OR 2″ version.

Why would they make two separate versions?! Confusing right?

Here’s the thing. It’s the same rack. You can swap between 1.25″ and 2″ if necessary. You have to remove 8 bolts, flip the spacers, and then reinstall the bolts, but it’s compatible.

They’re actually doing something nice, allowing customers to buy one that’s already configured for their needs. But the website creates confusion, making people think there are two different sizes. Not until you read the instructions is the truth clear.
