My Precision Nutrition ProCoach Software Review

What is ProCoach?

ProCoach is the custom coaching software developed by Precision Nutrition. It’s the same software they’ve been using in-house to coach over 100,000 clients around the world through their Lean Eating coaching program. The software is now available for other coaches to use with their own clients!

It has a proven track record, but is it the right solution for you?

Let’s take a detailed look at the software and then I’ll answer your questions.

How is it going to help me?

You’re a coach. You’re an expert on training and nutrition. (And if you’ve earned the Precision Nutrition certification, you’ve probably helped people to improve their lives by changing their nutrition habits.)

That’s an impressive resume.

But I’m willing to bet that you’re not a software developer. Or, even if you are a software developer, you’re too busy to build and maintain a new app…

You probably already feel like you’re too busy, right?

Most of us do. But if you had a tool like Pro Coach, you’d save time, you’d get better results for your clients, and you’d make more money.

Remember, this is the same system they developed for use with their own clients. It’s tried and tested.

Here are some of the wonderful things ProCoach does:

  • Saves you time by automating boring administrative tasks.
  • Improves productivity so you can take on more clients.
  • Makes coach/client communication easier and more organized.

By automating scheduling, lesson delivery, photo uploads, and other administrative tasks, ProCoach saves you so much time.

This means you can spend more time doing what you do best – coaching. And that leads to happier clients and better results.

What it boils down to is that ProCoach lets you coach more clients, so you’re making more money in the same amount of time.

Or you can use that improved productivity to free up your schedule, so you can spend more time with family, friends, and your chosen leisure activities. Because you need to take care of yourself, too!

If you’re busting your butt 80 hours per week, helping other people get healthy and live better lives… what are you doing for yourself?

You have to take care of yourself. Ya know, practice what you preach. Working too much and stressing yourself out is not healthy. So don’t work such long hours.

Even if you need the money, there are only so many hours in the day, so you better find ways to work smarter, not harder and longer. One of those ways is to use ProCoach.

ProCoach In Action

As a ProCoach user, you’d begin by logging in to your online dashboard. The platform is already set up for you. (ProCoach is considered software as a service, or SAAS. Sort of like Microsoft Office 365 where instead of purchasing the software, you purchase a subscription.)

In your dashboard, you’ll be able to add clients, and each of your clients gets their own account that is linked to yours. (The software manages the logins.)

Most of your coaching can take place through this interface. It even has a 12-month curriculum built in. ProCoach will deliver (to your clients, on your behalf) daily habits, lessons, check-ins, and more. All automatically. Your client will simply log in to their dashboard through their preferred web browser – no need for them to download an app.

You can review client profiles to track progress and then send encouragement. When clients have questions or it’s time for a monthly call, you’ll have all their data at your fingertips, in one organized location.

The Precision Nutrition coaching methodology is already built in.

Remember the theory? It’s habit-based coaching. You help people gradually build up their good habits, one at a time.

That is all automated with Pro Coach. It delivers the right lessons, on the right schedule. The curriculum includes nutrition, sleep, stress management, and other lifestyle lessons and practices.

It’s much better than just giving someone a meal plan to follow.

You can even include exercise coaching through an add-on called ProCoach Workouts.

Don’t forget the prize money!

Remember in the past I’ve written about Precision Nutrition Lean Eating coaching? (That’s where the on-staff coaches at Precision Nutrition coach clients using ProCoach.) I mentioned the big prize money that’s available. Well, there’s also prize money available to ProCoach users who have clients who completed body transformations!

Yes, your clients get a chance to win money, and Precision Nutrition is footing the bill!

A total of $20,000 was just awarded. You can see the 2018 transformation content winners here.

Precision Nutrition ProCoach Pricing

How much is all that going to cost you? Let’s explore their pricing structure…

Precision Nutrition ProCoach Cost

The Precision Nutrition ProCoach Software costs $99 per month for the basic nutrition coaching plan, at the presale discount. (Without the discount, prices start at $149 per month.) The price goes up if you need to manage more than 20 clients. There is also an additional cost if you want to add exercise coaching lessons in addition to the built-in nutrition coaching.

Here are the pricing tiers (at the exclusive presale price):

$99 USD flat fee per month for 0-20 active clients

$149 USD flat fee per month for 21-50 active clients

$199 USD flat fee per month for 51-100 active clients

Yes, those are flat fees. It is $99 per month whether you have 0 clients, 5 clients, or 20 clients. It’s not $99 per month, per client.

I highly suggest locking in the presale pricing! Otherwise you are going to pay 30-50% more, each and every month. (That means $149 monthly for 0-20 clients, $199 for 21-50 clients, $249 for 51-100 clients.)

So get on that pre-sale list!

Note: If you’d also like to coach exercise using ProCoach Workouts, that’s a $69 per month upgrade.

The pricing tier only increases as your clients do.

When you sign up, they’ll start you on the 0-20 client plan. You are welcome to add as many clients as you want. Each month, Precision Nutrition will bill you based on the number of active clients you’re working with at that time.

If you’re working with 50 clients one month, they’ll bill you $149. If you only have 12 clients the next month, they’ll only bill you $99. It’s all automatic.

Operating a large coaching business?

The ProCoach dashboard is designed to be used a single coach, supporting 200 or fewer clients.

If you’re running a coaching business with multiple coaches on staff, you would probably want to purchase a ProCoach account for each coach.

The Business of Nutrition Coaching

You definitely want to have a legitimate business if you plan to purchase this. That $99 each month will add up quickly if you’re not collecting money from customers!

On the flip side, you could charge $29, $49, maybe even $99 per month per client for your coaching services. And you’ll be providing a valuable service that improves people’s lives. So it’s a rewarding career!

If you’re new to this idea of running your own business, here’s some advice on how to get into nutrition coaching and keep your business afloat:

It explains seven popular business models (and how ProCoach fits in).

And to keep up with the latest advancements and network with your peers, all ProCoach users have access to a private Facebook group.

What’s Missing from ProCoach?

At this point, you might be wondering if there is anything it doesn’t do.

Sure. There are a lot of things that this software does not do. For instance:

  • It does not find clients for you.
  • It doesn’t handle billing or bookkeeping.
  • It does not cater to elite athletes.
  • It doesn’t take your certification exam for you.

You have to do your own marketing.

ProCoach does not come with built-in clients. And when someone signs up for Precision Nutrition Lean Eating, those clients work directly with Precision Nutrition, not with you.

You’ll still need to get out and network with potential partners, do some paid search engine advertising, create a social media presence, hang up flyers at local gyms, etc.

So if you’re going to sign-up for Precision Nutrition Pro Coach, you should either have personal training clients already or have a marketing plan in place to build your nutrition coaching client base.

You have to do the invoicing, billing, and other paperwork.

It would be nice if ProCoach eliminated all your administrative paperwork, but that’s just not feasible. All billing/invoicing and bookkeeping need to be done separately.

Fortunately, there are already solutions out there for this. Some of them are even free, aside from payment processing fees. You probably already use PayPal – you can also use it to send invoices and collect payments. For something more advanced, try FreshBooks.

Pro Coach doesn’t make sense for elite level athletes with unique dietary needs.

Elite athletes almost always have unique dietary needs. It varies by sport, but virtually all athletes at the highest levels have such unique, specific needs, that the lessons in ProCoach just don’t make sense.

Basically, the lessons are meant for the other 99% of the population.

You have to keep up your own Precision Nutrition certification.

A question I hear a lot is “do you have to be a PN certified coach to use ProCoach?” The answer is yes. That’s because this program is only open to Precision Nutrition Certification Level 1 and 2 students and graduates.

So if you want to use ProCoach, you need to first enter the Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification program – and then keep your certification current.

  1. Are you saying it works for cyclists? Or it does not?

    • @AJ

Oh, it will work just fine if you’re providing nutrition coaching to most cyclists. Now if your athletes will be competing in the Tour de France next summer, well, that’s a different story. But for most cyclists looking to stay in shape and eat right and have more fun on their rides, I can see them benefiting from going through the ProCoach-prescribed lessons.

  2. I’ve been wondering a bout Pro Coach. Is there a manual? Can I download a quickstart guide? I need to print my documents before reading.

    • @Perry

You’re looking for a Precision Nutrition Pro Coach quickstart guide?

You don’t need one. Log in to your coaching dashboard and everything is right there. It’s basically a step-by-step quickstart guide. Remember – Precision Nutrition is known for guiding you along, whether you’re a coaching client or a certification client. As a ProCoach user, you can expect the same.
