Tested: CyclingSingles.com, A Dating Site for Cyclists

Online dating seems to be the big thing these days, with new matchmaking sites popping up every day. No longer do we just have generic “singles” sites, we actually have sites dedicated to almost every group of people, so you’re sure to find that special someone who shares your interests.
It must have been over a year ago that I first found out about the cycling specific dating site, CyclingSingles.com.
Yeah, I was a bit skeptical at first. Probably because I’m skeptical of all the other dating sites. But because of the fact that it was Cycling Singles, it drew me in.
Upon checking out the site, I quickly decided it was not for me! I just didn’t want to get involved with the whole online dating thing. That was the last time I visited the site for a while, but I never actually forgot about it.
Then, a few days ago, I finally decided to try it out. For the most part I just wanted to write a review about it for this site. But luckily I found this line in the site’s mission statement:
“So whether you’re looking for a new relationship or just seeking new friendships, now you can find it in an environment populated with people just like you.”
So I guess it wouldn’t hurt to find some riding buddies. No harm in that. So here I go…
Ok, I have signed-up and logged-in!
Getting started was fairly simple. Actually, really simple. I just had to come up with a username and password and fill in a few personal details (but nothing to endanger my privacy.) You could even be very vague in your description and not really give out any detailed information.
But do keep in mind that anyone online could make a false profile, so be wary. However easy it would be, I didn’t notice anything fishy as I browsed through some user profiles.
And CyclingSingles is definitely aware of this possible issue, as they have posted recommendations on dating and safety issues. It’s just up to you not to do anything stupid!
I filled out more of my profile, which consists of a bunch of optional questions. Topics range from appearance to religion to your fashion sense and drinking behavior!
You can even upload a photo to complement your written description.
Time to find a date…
I checked out the search function it worked marvelously. Basically you are searching within a certain radius of your zip code for males or females. I only found a few matches since I live in the middle of nowhere, but a few cute girls definitely caught me eye
You’ll get more or less results depending on your zip code. If you don’t find that many at first, wait a week and maybe you’ll find more!
There’s also a “Super Match” function which actually compares your profile to other profiles and gives you a % match of how compatible you are! This was pretty cool, and I didn’t know you could do matches like that unless you paid for some premium dating service.
Pull out the credit card…
I did so much with the site for free, I started wondering why I would have to pay for anything…
Well, when you look at someone’s profile, you have the option to send them a message. But, you can only send messages if you have a paid subscription.
Basically, you get to find people for free. Then when you find someone who could be your soul mate, and you desperately feel the need to contact them, you gotta fork over the money!
I’ll admit, the site really draws you in. It’s definitely tempting to subscribe, especially when you find someone interesting.
Luckily the subscription isn’t outrageous. There are a few options ranging from $20 per month to $100 for a year. If someone really catches your eye, it could be worth the $20 to get in touch with them.
My final verdict is…
It’s worth signing-up and checking it out for 5 or 10 minutes. If you don’t like it, no harm done (since it’s totally free to get started.) But if you do like it or find someone, well, that’s a different story!
If you have been thinking of trying a dating service or you’re just looking for a riding buddy, I recommend giving this a shot. And if you find a potential partner (or two), and have $20, go for it!

P.S. I just hope my girlfriend doesn’t find out that I signed-up at a singles site!
OK, I don’t have a girlfriend at the moment. I just thought it would be funny to add that in there at the end, for humor’s sake.
