Another look at Garmin

One one of my other sites, I looked at the Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS unit. Now I found a good review of its bigger brother, the 301.

There’s a good review on active.com – it sounds good and could be something to look at, especially if you are a multisport athlete.

I especially like the pace-per-mile calculations. Instead of waiting till you are done and calculating your pace, I guess this actually calculates your pace in real time! Pretty sweet if you’re out running, maybe training to run a marathon at a certain pace.

There are plenty of other features, so if you might be interested, read the full review – there’s a lot of features in this thing!

Garmin is the leader in GPS devices. There’s not doubt that the would make one that would be great for running/cycling enthusiast as well.

I also have a Garmin. It is in need of map updating and I was told abruptly that there is a charge of 60.00 for upgrading maps on the Garmin.
A person would be ahead to purchase new than go that direction. There are also other brands available that might not charge such a fee for upgrading. How hard would it be to just upgrade the areas that have changed routing? With their technology they surely can be more agreeable. Then again, there ARE others out there.

Yeah, the map upgrade fees seem like a ripoff.

I checked the site and it’s $70 to update my Garmin c340. But if I go on eBay, a brand new c340 with the newer maps is just $100. (I could do that and then sell my older c340 and probably spend less overall!)

I know I like Garmin’s interface though, so I’d have to test out the other brands before switching.
