@Karen P

Pro cyclists aren't normal people. 1000 calories in a bowl of oatmeal isn't a big deal for someone burning an extra 4000 calories per day from training!

Why would you want 1000 calories in one bowl? That's well over half a normal person's calorie intake for an entire day. There is lower calorie oatmeal that's still good...

Microwave 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries until warm and stir in uncooked rolled organic oats (thicker than regular, and not instant). All the liquid you need is from the blueberries, no need to add water or reheat. You can stir in 1-2T of whey protein powder, too, and then top with stevia, agave or maple syrup to taste. A bit of lemon is nice, too. Add more blueberries for a dish more like blueberry cobbler, more oats for a granola texture. Works great with other berries, too.

I'm a grab & go breakfast person, love oatmeal, & also lifetime member of Weight Watchers. Here's a WW recipe for BAKED OATMEAL.Makes 6 servings so I use jumbo 6 serving muffin pans instead of using a baking dish. I grab one,pop it in the microwave,
get my coffee & I'm good to go.Can also make a big batch, put them in freezer & thaw in fridge the night before.
BAKED OATMEAL
6 servings – 4 points each
2 cup uncooked oatmeal (instant, not steel cut)
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup fat-free skim milk
1/2 cup Egg Beaters (or 2 eggs or 3 egg whites)
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce or 2 mashed bananas, pumpkin, sweet potato or fruit
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbs ground cinnamon or other spices

Combine wet ingredients and add dry ingredients. Bake in sprayed 11x7 ( or jumbo 6 muffin pan) at 350 for 30-40 min. You can add raisins, nuts, or crushed pineapple instead of applesauce or bananas. Also good served warm with sugar free syrup

I eat oatmeal for most breakfasts. I do not add sugar or fruit. I add cinnamon and a little maple syrup. I cannot combine fruit with a carb product; so cinnamon and maple syrup were recommended by a dietician!! Plus that way of eating oatmeal is for a person who wants to get rid of some extra pounds, a Fibromyalgia person, and someone who needs to be on a food combination diet.

[...] Oatmeal is great. It provides a healthy dose of carbohydrates for energy, and unlike most carb-heavy meals, oats fill you up. Simply put, oatmeal is just about the perfect breakfast. [...]

To get the full benefit of the nutrition in fruits and vegetables, it is recommended to eat them uncooked when possible.
The vegetables that are difficult to eat raw should be steamed until al dente, or used in a vegetable soup.
Never, ever use the microwave to cook or reheat as it destroys a lot of nutrition in foods.

Oatmeal is truly one of the kings of nutrition, and you've given many of the main reasons why. One thing people should keep in mind though is that they want to consume oatmeal that is sugar-free. I know many of my clients believe that eating a serving of oatmeal prepackaged with maple and sugar is a great way to start off their day. Unfortunately, that is not the type of oatmeal we're talking about. That being said, you can easily sweeten up that plain oatmeal with fresh fruit, as you've mentioned. This combination is a powerful tool in health and as an added bonuse, weight loss.
