As one who bikes and walks to work, I am a fan of bikes as a mode of transportation. Unfortunately I am part of a small constituency. Bikes will be the solution when the price of gas rises sufficiently (at least to the price level of the more expensive European countries).

Everyone out there, send your opinions in! Just the fact that a Congressman sees multiple letters about bicycling could be enough to make a difference, enough that they might think twice before listening to someone put bicycles down this way.

I would under most circumstances consider my self a Republican. I value many of the same things that Republicans typically do. But I really hate it when Republican representatives make statements like this. This is really more of an issue of being short sighted and ill informed than being a Democrat or Republican.

I would really encourage everyone in Congressman McHendry’s district to contact him and tell him he is wrong about his views on cycling.

I tried to send him an e-mail from this link: http://mchenry.house.gov/zipauth.htm but I’m not from his district so it would not let me. I did contact my representative to share my opinion of this.

Everyone has the right to contact your state and federal representatives. They will even meet with you face to face if you schedule an appointment. Its true they really will. So please please if you feel strongly about any issue bicycles or otherwise it is your duty as a citizen to speak up.
