British Cycling Champion Jason MacIntyre – Another Victim Of The Road
Breaking news today is the story of Jason MacIntyre, a British cycling champion who met an untimely demise after a collision with a van on a road near his home. He was just 34 years old and had a wife and two daughters.
Not only was MacIntyre a champion cyclist, he even broke cyclist Graham Obreeās 10-mile time trial record last year. Obree was the world record holder for the hour record and the subject of The Flying Scotsman, so it’s no small feat.
From Times Online:
Stewart Maxwell, the Scottish Sports Minister, also paid tribute to MacIntyre, saying: “Jason was one of our finest athletes who represented Scotland at the highest level on the international sporting stage, including the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.”
“His death robs Scottish sport of an incredible talent and I would like, on behalf of the Scottish Government, to pass our condolences to his wife and twin daughters.”
But alas, no cyclist can win when we’re talking about automobile collisions. While this event was very unfortunate (as with all cyclists killed on the roads,) hopefully some good comes from it, whether it be more courteous drivers or cycling-friendly roads.
My condolences to his many friends and family.
