Bad Breath

After my last post about tea, I saw a few things about tea being good for your breath. Being a single guy, I figured I should look into this, and while doing so I found something cool.

It’s called The Bad Breath Bible. It’s an ebook with all the secrets to preventing bad breath, and it’s free, so check it out!

The coolest part is the headline: “Discover what Listerine, Scope, Colgate, and Crest don’t want you to know!”

Tea Is Bad For Your Teeth

cup of tea

What a load of BS. One of my friends told me that the reason English people have bad teeth is because they drink a lot of tea. I’ve never been to England, so I had no idea that they supposedly have bad teeth… But that rumor doesn’t really matter, because tea is definitely NOT bad for your teeth.

I’ll keep drinking a few glasses of tea every day to improve my health. My teeth are perfectly fine, and I don’t see why I should give up tea, which has so many other health benefits I can’t even begin to list them all.

I found a really old study saying that herbal tea can hurt teeth, but I’m not falling for it. In the rest of my research, I have only found sites that say how good tea is. This story looks trustworthy, this green tea info looks good too, and most other stories were totally useless.

So from now on, keep drinking your tea in peace and ignore people who don’t know what they are talking about :)

Running in Central Pennsylvania

Who would’ve known that my hometown was such a nice place to run?

CoolRunning actually featured a story about running from Grampian, PA to Clearfield, PA along a rail trail. I was pretty suprised, considering I have run and ridden my bike over the exact stretch of trail they are talking about!

Check out their story to get an idea of what’s it like in my neck of the woods. Stop by sometime, and don’t forget your sneakers!

Exhausted Rider or Idiot Kid?

Today I’m thinking about Bob Breedlove’s death during the 2005 RAAM. I heard about it a while ago, but recently read the full account by Outside Magazine.

I, like most others, heard the news and figured it was a tragic accident. Shit happens – no matter how safe you ride, there’s always that chance of getting hit by a motorist. You hate to see it, but you know it happens.

What you probably didn’t know is how odd the full story of this accident actually is. It involves an ultracyclist, a kid driving a pickup truck, and a lot of holes. (Holes in the story… not potholes…)

Supposedly Breedlove, tired from 5 days of riding, fell asleep while riding and drifted across the road into the path of an oncoming truck. It sounds entirely possible – until you read the details.

Riding At Night

Or more likely, in the dark. Now that daylight savings time isn’t saving any light for us, you may end up riding in the dark more often than not.

But that’s OK if you have the proper equipment. You could actually have more fun in the dark, although it is risky especially if you have to ride on high-traffic roads.

With a high powered front light and a red blinker behind you, you should be all set, right? It makes sense because you can see and be seen. However, there could be more to the story.

What if you just think you have the proper equipment?

Did you know there could be laws delegating what constitutes proper gear for riding in the dark? I had no idea, so it’s a good think I found this article over at VeloNews. It was written by Bob Mionske, who knows a thing or two about cycling and the law.

http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/11094.0.html

The article covers a specific case concerning Minnesota law, but it’s an eye-opener for all cyclists.

It’s a good read, especially if you find yourself out on the road when the sun goes down.
